An Analysis and Forecast of China‘s Economy in 2002—2003

Supported by strong domestic demand,china's seconomy maintained rapid growth through recent years.In 2002,the first year after Chia's WTO entry,growth has exceeded all expectations,GDP in the first three quaters of 2002 reached 7.1682 trillion yuan,up 7.9 percent over the same period of last year.This outcome is attributable to a number of factors including the global economic recovery,a proactive sifscal and moderate monetary policy,and gains in economic efficency and productivity,However,there are still some unfavorable signs in China's economic picture such as re-emergence of deflation,weak consumer demand,employment stress and so on .Nevertheless,in view of the strong performance of China's economy in 2002,GDP growth for 2002 and 2003 is expected to significantly exceed the 7.3 percent rate of 2001.To realize this target,China will continue to implement a proactive fiscal policy and a moderate monetary policy.
