Angiographic embolization for refractory epistaxis
摘要
Objective: To assess the role of angiographic embolization in treatment of refractory epistaxis. Methods: The diagnostic and therapeutic role of digital subtraction angiography (DSA) in 13 patients with refractory epistaxis were retrospectively studied. Results: Pseudoaneurysm of carotid artery was confirmed in 3 of the 13 patients with refractory epistaxis with angiography. Selective angiographic embolization was performed in 12/13 patients. The success rate was 91.67%(11/12). Patients were tolerant to the use of DSA without severe complications. Conclusion: Selective angiographic embolization is a safe and effective method in treatment of refractory epistaxis. In case of traumatic epistaxis with ineffective conservative treatment or recurrent epistaxis, preoperative angiography should be performed to rule out pseudoaneurysm of carotid artery.
