1. Chinese Poetry and Chinese Painting 中國詩與中國畫

Poetry and painting are known as the sister arts. Cheng Zhengkui appropriates a Chan Buddhist Keyword as a metaphor for the method of painting. Wang Wei, the founder of the Southern School of Painting, happened to be the great master of the Spiritual Resonance School of Poetry, and was one of the earliest believers in the Southern School of Chan Buddhism. Within the history of ancient Chinese poetry, the Spiritual Resonance School cannot be regarded as orthodox, unlike the Southern School, which once commanded the dominant position within the history of ancient painting. Within the tradition of Chinese literary and artistic criticism, poetry that was commensurate with the style of the Southern School of Painting was neither the highest grade poetry nor was it orthodox, whereas paintings that were equivalent to the poetic style of the Spiritual Resonance School of Poetry were the highest regarded and most orthodox.
