The Evolution of Academic Research in the Field of Sukuk as an Islamic Equivalent of Bonds
摘要
This paper examines the development of academic research on sukuk — certificates of equal nominal value that, once issued, represent ownership of a share or right derived from tangible assets, services, or participation in a project or investment. Traditionally, sukuk are Islamic financial instruments with specific characteristics. The study spans historical, geographical, and thematic perspectives, focusing on accounting, reporting, and auditing issues associated with these transactions. The article examines scholarly works on sukuk, a topic still debated in the Russian economy, drawing on publications from international databases. It applies general economic methods such as analysis and synthesis, comparison, logical reasoning, and observation. The study proposes a matrix reflecting the evolution of academic research on sukuk, considering historical and geographical dimensions, key trends, and future forecasts. This matrix serves as an analytical map for understanding the past, present, and future of sukuk research. The study’s contribution to the field lies in systematizing scattered scholarly knowledge, identifying determinants, and tracing the key stages of sukuk’s academic evolution. In practical terms, the study helps identify promising directions for further research and forecasting. From an academic standpoint, it expands the theoretical and methodological foundations for research on Islamic partnership financing, an area that is currently underdeveloped. The findings may be of interest to organizations that seek to use sukuk to attract investment from Gulf countries.
