摘要

The next generation of LNG ships will operate with greater economy because of important changes in fuel consumption and energy utilisation. Preference in the selection of main propulsion units will be towards long stroke diesel engines burning only heavy oil, while boil-off will be minimised and reliquified. This paper presents the rationale for changing to the main diesel engine as well as the results of cost analyses comparing alaternative engine installations . Projected annual operating costs for the diesel-propelled LNG ship are compared to costs for LNG ships with steam turbine propulsion. Building cost differences are shown for the new diesel design with boil-off reliquefaction compared to the existing gas-fired steam designs with higher boil-off.
