摘要

Steroid estrogens have been recognized as a group of endocrine disrupting chemicals with strong biological activity. An extremely low level of steroid estrogens is sufficient to result in reproduction disorders, abnormal behavior, and larval mutation in both human being and animals. According to the date obtained in global survey, steroid estrogens levels in water are close to or even over the harmful levels which have been confirmed in several animal toxicological tests. Sewage treatment plant is one of the biggest sources of steroid estrogens, and therefore the mechanisms of steroid estrogens removal in wastewater have been intensively investigated during the last decades. The focus of this present prospective review will be on discussing the roles of biological degradation, sorption and advanced oxidation processes in steroid estrogens removal in the wastewater, so as to provide some valuable information for future studies.
