Hotels

Hotels serve the needs of travellers, tourists, business visitors and others seeking temporary accommodation and other services. Chain hotels may be company owned but are frequently financed by separate investors and then operated by the hotel company under contract or through a franchise. High grade hotels typically offer a choice of suites as well as standard rooms and often extend their hotel services to apartments in associated developments such as in condominiums. Tourism authorities in most countries use symbols to classify hotels and other types of tourist accommodation. Hotels may necessarily be located in areas of high ambient noise such as highway and street traffic, airports and urban surroundings. Providing accommodation for transient travellers and tourists who are unfamiliar with the layout and equipment, hotels need to have particular regard to their safety and security. Protection and means of escape in event of fire imposes specific requirements in hotels.
