Prospects for LNG storage in unlined rock caverns
摘要
The feasibility of unlined rock caverns for LNG storage in Northern Norway is examined. Prevention of thermal cracking by locating the cavern beneath a sufficient depth of cover is considered a key element of design. Although volumetric boil-off rates of about 0.4 percent per day are expected within the first year of operation, the boil-off rate decreases rapidly with time and does not overshadow favourable project economics.
