Forced vibrations in nonlinear systems

In this paper, steady forced vibrations in nonlinear systems of one or many degrees of freedom with broken-linear characteristics are dealt with by an approximate analytical method. Using Fourier expansion of the displacement, approximate solutions are obtained by solving simultaneons equations of the first degree. Then forced vibrations in a system of one degree of freedom with a dead zone, one with saturation characteristics, one with initial spring set, and forced oscillations in the closed circuit of an automatic control system with a nonlinearity of similar kind are treated by this method. It becomes clear by comparison with the exact solutions in a few non-dissipative cases, that the accuracy of this method of analysis is generally very high.
