Innate immunity of Litopenaeus vannamei
摘要
Fishery resources exhaustion results from marine pollution and overfishing, hence the protein source from aquaculture plays a crucial role in the future. Shrimp industry is an important part of aquaculture, and the major species cultured in Taiwan are white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei), tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) and giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii). Because of the intensive farming and improper management of cultivating environment, disease occurrence and economic losses in recent years occurred. Unlike vertebrate, crustacean lack antibodies but can still carry out efficient defence against pathogens. Therefore, the roles of prophenoloxidase system, phagocytosis, coagulation and hematopoiesis in immunity of L. vannamei are reviewed.
