Improving health literacy to reduce health inequalities

摘要

The Health Promotion Administration provides comprehensive health promotion from families to communities with the goal of enhancing life expectancy of national health and reducing health inequity. In order to improve the health literacy of people, the Health Promotion Administration promotes the national plan of health literacy, establishes an integration resource center and focuses on the process of people empowerment through the following three strategies: First, building health information which is reliable and consistent with health literacy. 1. Developing assessment tools of general health education and multimedia as the basis for creating health teaching materials, providing health service providers with the ability to select and develop appropriate graphic teaching materials as an effective communication media for health information, and establishing a single entry platform of various health information. 2. Researching and developing localized health literacy assessment tools for various diseases, such as health literacy assessment tools for diabetes and chronic kidney disease patients, healthy weight management questionnaires, and scale development and evaluation plans. 3. Building and developing smart technology to promote health literacy: for instance, using instant social media such as Facebook and LINE to disseminate health information. Additionally, for the rumors of health information, we build up website to clarify the rumors and supply correct health information and enhance health literacy. 4. Promoting Shared Decision Making Model of NCDs Prevention: Developed 12 Patient-Decision-Aid (PDA) in 2017, including health promotion measures like smoking cessation, breastfeeding and obesity prevention, and non-communicable disease issues like menopause, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, COPD and hyperlipidemia.
