摘要

The physical and chemical properties of a disperse system depend on microscopic processes such as droplet coalescence and film drainage. Such processes can be studied in terms of droplet interaction-deformation behavior by using scanning probe microscopy (SPM) to simulate Brownian motions of droplets. Here, we review recent developments and the state of the art use of SPM to study deformation and coalescence of soft bodies, and the dynamic forces affecting such bodies. We introduce related techniques, and describe their application for the measurement of forces between deformable bodies; we also present recent progress in the measurement of DLVO forces, non-DLVO forces, and hydrodynamic forces between droplets, and comment on the major findings. Based on the content set out above, we aim to provide a reference for future research into colloidal interactions, and to shed light on potential improvements for existing techniques.
