Superior Vena Cava Syndrome

Fig. 1 Photograph of a 68-year-old man with facial edema and cyanosis A 68-year-old previously healthy man and a heavy smoker for over 20 years presented to the emergency department with progressive facial edema (Fig. 1), dyspnea on exertion, and chronic cough in recent 2-3 weeks. Lightheadedness and hoarseness are also noted. Chest x-ray was taken to evaluate the cause of dyspnea (Fig. 2). A mass lesion was noted and computed tomography of the chest was performed (Fig. 3). Tissue biopsy was arranged and revealed small cell carcinoma. Right upper lung mass which was causing the external compression of the SVC , decreased in size after serial radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The Superior Vena Cava Syndrome
