摘要

Tribological behaviors of the brass/silicon nitride rubbing couple under external voltages were investigated by a self-made friction tester. Three different aqueous solutions were used to find the optimum lubricant that can support a rapid voltage-controlled friction phenomenon. Experimental results show that, for all of the solutions, friction coefficients in the presence of an external voltage higher than 6V DC were approximately 2 times higher than those in the absence of an external voltage. The response time of friction force to a step increased under external voltage could be as short as 0.5s in these solutions, while 1.5s was needed for the recovery process of friction. The main factors predominating the step response of friction were discussed.
