Gossypiboma (Retained Surgical Sponge): Report of a Case
摘要
Gossypihoma, or retained surgical sponge, is a ubiquitous but avoidable medical error. Because it presents with nonspecific symptoms and is easily misdiagnosed, the result is often delayed treatment. Awareness of the typical radiological appearance is critical to reach a correct diagnosis of gossypiboma, but prevention remains paramount. We report a case of gossypihoma which was preoperatively diagnosed from a history of abdominal surgery and characteristic imaging findings.
