Endoscopic Studies of Esophageal Varices
摘要
Two hundred and two cases of esophageal varices were selected in this study to analyze the relationships between the endoscopic findings and bleeding tendency. The criteria used for classifying the endoscopic findings of esophageal varices were based on the ”General Rules for Recording Endoscopic Finding on Esophageal Varices” proposed in 1979 by the Japanese Research Society for Portal Hypertension. Although they correlated the bleeding rate with the form as well as the location of varices, the red color sign (RCS) played much more important role in predicting bleeding. Because large or highly extended varices were frequently associated with the RCS (P<0.05), they had high bleeding rate. High bleeding rate was also noted in cases of associated inflammation which was unrelated to the RCS. Since the inflammation was a kind of transient lesion, it could not be used as a sign for predicting bleeding. There was no significant relabionshi between the bleeding rate and the fundamental color of the esophageal varices.
