Determination of Parameters of Rational B-spline Curves for Cam Mechanism by Using Parallel Computing

The parallel computation method for determining the parameters of a numerical motion curve in the curve fitting problem is presented in this paper. Due to high flexibility, smoothness, and multi-solution properties, numerical curve have widely been applied to high-speed machining, indexing and positioning mechanism, and flow simulations of turbine, pump, blade, etc. For multi-parameter problems, the objective function are defined as the minimization of differential value of the curve in terms of the parameters of the numerical curve, including order, node sequence, and weight sequence. In this paper, the proposed method which incorporates with the sieving scan method is adopted to determine the parameters of rational B-spline to reduce the executing time and refine the solving resolution. A high-performance low-speed curve for the intermittence motion and a globoidal cam are used as examples in this paper. The execution performance with 8 CPUs can be raised up to 7.5 times, and good mechanical properties can be also obtained.
