Maxillary Frenectomy Using Diode Laser in an Infant Patient

Dental lasers are currently being employed in many aspects, providing altematives to the traditional scalpel techniques. Although different types of lasers have been applied for labial frenectomy, the use of diode laser is limited for the infants and children from review of literatures. This report presented a successful case of a maxillary frenectomy in an infant patient using diode laser to facilitate oral hygiene care. With small amounts of local anesthesia, frenectomy was performed with optimal hemostasis in the outpatient setting. Suturing was not needed and there were no postoperative complications. The use of diode laser in young populations is thus advocated since it is a comparably simple and safe procedure without the need for general anesthesia.
