摘要

Pseudomelanosis of the duodenum is a rare benign condition characterized by discrete, flat, small brownish-black spots in the duodenal mucosa. It is strongly related to some chronic illness and medications, though the etiology remains unclear. We report the case of a 74-year-old male with past history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and coronary artery disease. He was admitted due to gastric ulcer with bleeding and pseudomelanosis duodeni was an incidental finding. Histological examination showed numerous macrophages, laden with granular pigment, infiltrated in the lamina propria of mucosal villi. Histochemistry studies were performed and we believed the content of the pigment is mainly ferrous sulfide.
