Observation on Therapeutic Effect of Sophoricoside Capsule for Postmenopausal Osteoporosis

AIM: To observe the therapeutic effect of Sophoricoside Capsules on post- menopausal osteoporosis. METHODS: Twenty-two postmenopausal osteoporosis patients with low density of L(subscript 1-4) were administered Sophoricoside Capsules, 60 mg per day for 3 months. Before and after treatment, the density of lumbar vertebrae and forearm, the scrolls estradiol, testosterone, follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), Osteocalcin, procollagen type Ⅰ C-terminal peptide (PICP), and deoxypyridinoline(Dpyr) were tested to observe the rest pain and motion pain of the lower back. RESULTS: There was a big difference in the density of lumbar vertebrae of postmenopausal osteoporosis patients treated with the Sophoricoside Capsule. [L1:(0.769±0.206)g/cm^2, (0.816±0.212) g/cm^2, t=-2.855, P=0.009; L3: (0.915±0.188) g/cm^2, (0.958±0.205) g/cm^2, t=-2.137, P=0.044; L(subscript 2-4): (0.889±0.197)g/cm^2, (0.92±0.204) g/cm2, t=-2.256, P=0.035]; testosterone[(0.283±0.131) ng/ml, (0.236±0.133) ng/mL] and FSH[(52.988±23.113) mIU/mL, (44.225±18.144) mIU/mL] decreased remarkably(t=2.9864, P=0.007; t=2.624, P=0.016); Dpyr reduced obviously(t=3.856, P=0.001); and the rest pain and motion pain of lower back were relieved markedly after the treatment (rest pain: t=9.566, P=0.001; motion pain: t=6.797, P=0.001). CONCLUSION: The Sophoricoside Capsule improves the density of lumbar vertebrae, inhibits the bone absorption, and noticeably alleviated the lumbar pain greatly.
