Clinical Analysis of 112 Asymptomatic Peptic Ulcers
摘要
Among total of 1157 Chinese adults who had received routine upper gastrointestinal endoscopy during their physical check-up, 186 (16%) were found to have ulcer crater or ulcer scar in stomach and/or duodenum. The prevalence of peptic ulcer disease was 20.6% in male patients and 8.6% in females (p<0.05), whereas the prevalence of active peptic ulcer was 14.1% in males and 5.5% in females (p=0.07). Thirty-six percent of patients with active duodenal ulcer and 48% patients with active gastric ulcer were asymptomatic. In the category of active ulcer, the patients with asymptomatic duodenal ulcer were significantly older than the symtomatic patients, but this age difference did not exist in the patients with gastric ulcer, and there was no difference in sex, smoking habit, alcohol drinking or analgesic use between the asymptomatic and symptomatic patients. Neither was there any association between symptom status and location of active gastric ulcer. On the other hand, 88% (44/50) of patients with inactive ulcer were free of symptom, and no dfference was found in age and sex between asymptomatic and symptomatic patients. We conclude that the proportion of asymptomatic peptic ulcer is not uncoumon.
