Characterization of Varved Clayey Silts at an LNG Terminal Site
摘要
The planned LNG terminal is a regasification facility that includes three (3) double-wall storage tanks for a daily send-out capacity of 1.2 billion cubic feet (33 million cubic meters). The project site features thick soft varved clayey silts. Characterization of this layer, especially its shear strength, permeability, and preconsolidation history, is critical to the foundation design and construction. This paper compares different methods used to characterize the varved clayey silts. Site specific coefficients were generated for the pile capacity analysis and settlement prediction. Recommendations were made for the foundation design and construction based on the characteristics of the varved clayey silts.
