摘要

Three regions of the spectrum of the bright quasar Q1101-264 have been observed with a resolution of 0.25 Å at the Anglo-Australian Telescope. An absorption redshift system at z<SUB>abs</SUB> = 1.8387, previously reported as being single, is found to contain at least five components with a total velocity spread of 160 km s<SUP>-1</SUP>. A new Mg II complex also is present at z<SUB>abs</SUB> = 0.3564 and 0.3591 with pairs of components separated by 24 and 40 km s<SUP>-1</SUP>, respectively, and a total range of 630 km s<SUP>-1</SUP>. The profiles of the numerous Lyα lines are almost invariably resolved with velocity dispersion parameters generally in the range 10 - 45 km s<SUP>-1</SUP>.
