摘要

The purposes of this study were to construct a valid and reliable scale to measure the spiritual health of nursing students. Researchers conducted loosely structured interviews, held focus groups, distributed self-administrated open-ended questionnaires, and reviewed relevant literature to define key variables affecting spiritual health. A total of 47 spiritual health variables were identified and used to construct a spiritual health scale. Researchers then tested scale construct validity and reliability on 91 subjects. The five sub-concepts of ”connection to others”, ”meaning derived from living”, ”transcendence”, ”religious attachment”, and ”self-understanding” were found to explain 58.64% of total variances. Experts' validity and content validity index were also estimated. The correlation coefficent between this index and the spiritual/religious/belief dimensions as defined under WHOQOL100 was 0.65. Cronbach's alpha of internal consistency was 0.93 and correlation of test-retest reliability was .77, with a 3-week interval. These results show that the scale offers satisfactory validity and reliability and can be applied to assess the spiritual health status of individuals. The findings of this study also provide a reference to design programs to promote better spiritual health and develop spiritual education content.
