摘要

The switching frequency, forward conduction drop, and hold‐off voltage determines in which applications the Cs‐Ba tacitron can best be used. Therefore, understanding how the operating conditions affect the above parameters is imperative. This report focuses on the ignition and extinguishing processes of the device and describes how the operating parameters affect the repetition rate. In the Cs‐Ba tacitron, because the degree of ionization is high, most of the heavy components in the interlectrode gap are Cs ions. The removal of ions from the gap allows quenching of the discharge current in the device but makes the subsequent discharge difficult to ignite. When the Cs pressure and/or emitter temperature are increased, the forward conduction voltage drop decreases and ignition becomes easier, but extinguishing becomes much harder because the density of the heavy components in the gap remains higher than its threshold for interrupting the discharge current.
