Pseudomyxoma Peritonei Mimicking Acute Appendicitis and Peritonitis
摘要
Pseudomyxoma peritonei is a rare condition, characterized by diffuse collections of gelatinous material in the abdomen and pelvis. Without treatment, progressive accumulation of ascites will lead to intestinal obstruction. We report a case with pseudomyxoma peritonei mimicking acute appendicitis and peritonitis. Even after emergent surgical intervention, proper antibiotic treatment, and anti-cancer treatment, this disorder remains a clinical challenge. Current articles in the literature about diagnosis and treatment of pseudomyxoma peritonei are also reviewed.
