主位、主语和话题——论三者在英汉翻译中的关系及其相互转换
摘要
In translation, translators adopt general translating strategies in accordance with the discourse subject, writing style as well as translators' intention. So the carrying out of translation process is embodied by the transference of phrases, clauses and their combination between the source language and the target language. Halliday's theory of discourse analysis divides clauses into theme and rheme according to their linear order. However, due to the different structure and features contained in different languages, the layout and corresponding clause elements constructed by the theme/rheme information function are not necessarily the same. Therefore, in order to increase the acceptability of the versions, translators must transform the sentence structure of the source language to inset with the habitual expression of the target language. This is no exception to F-C translation. By comparing and analyzing a few examples, the essay intends to state the relationship between theme, theme and topic, the tendency to make transferences in handling clause structure and information layout while translating so that some valuable revelation could he achieved in the actual practice.
