”Two Beauties, One Husband” recurs in ancient novels and dramas. It's prototype can be dated from the ancient myth of Shun and Ehuang. The stories of this type sprang up in the literature of the Yuan, M ing, and Q ing Dynasties. PiPaIi and The Biographies of Heroic Youth came about at the same time. This type of stories is heavily loaded with male authority consciousness. They were love utopias created to protect feudal morals.
