摘要

The hypothesis of ”the Jiangnan Way” is a academic response to ”British Mode”, to reveal the economic similarities of China and England in the period of Ming and the Qing dynasties through the contrast. The discussion and the comments given on the comparative research have focused on the level of the facts around the economic field, and have been mainly in allusion to perceive the similarities and differences of the economic developments and how to interpret the procreant causes of British industrial revolution, without a specified discussion in terms of the comparative objective connotations and comparative method introduced by the scholars who engage in this comparative research. Virtually, ”the Jiangnan Way” and ”British Mode” are the trend concepts of qualitative change expressing economic transition. Enormous social venture behind transition determines that economic transition can not be self-disciplined and that the eventual deviation of economic transition can not be self-explained through the previous similarities and differences of economy. Therefore the comparative research is in the face of not only the issue whether both economies before the transition were similar but also the one whether it was a necessity that the similarities before the transition made similar finals. The conclusions of two issues given by the comparative research, however, are not reliable because of an absence of comparative experiences, a lack of following strict comparative principle of parallelism, and being deficient in cognition of the complex facts impacting economic transition.
