東西方繪畫藝術表現之比較(抽象表現主義、寫意與八大山人、威廉.杜庫寧的繪畫)
摘要
The aim of this work is to examine the reason for the striking similarities between some of the works of the American Abstract-Expressionist painter Willem De Kooning(威廉.杜庫寧)and the seventeenth century Chinese painter Bada Shanren(八大山人). The two artists come from backgrounds as different as one could imagine, yet some of their works, if viewed side by side, are strikingly similar in composition and manner of execution, though not in medium. My thesis focuses on a comparison between Willem de Kooning’s paintings Excavation and Woman I and Bada Shanren’s painting Lotus and Birds. The similarity between the gestural approaches of the two artists, in my opinion, warrants investigation. I will discuss the various influences as well as the general cultural and art-theoretical backgrounds of both painters’ work, and trace the processes that led to the arrival at such similar results via two completely different routes. I will discuss the various influences which resulted in Willem de Kooning’s painterly, gestural style, as well as the inspirations behind Excavation and Woman I in particular. I will also trace the path that led to Bada Shanren’s expressive, xie yi (寫意)style and the meaning behind the imagery in Lotus and Birds and the significance of the compositional and technique choices that he made. Finally I will discuss the significance of the similarity of the two painters’ styles and what this similarity means in the context of the history of the development of Chinese and Western painting.
