摘要

SHIJI, or Historical Records, became the highly praised model of prose writing during the Classical Prose Movement in the Tang and Song Dynasties. According to Cheng Shidao and Huang Tingjian, Su Shi ”didn't like Historical Records”. This remained a puzzle to them. Actually, Su Shi not only had a subtle relation with Historical Records in literature, but also conducted a deep research into it. Su Shi interpreted in detail for the first time why Historical Records put Laozi, Zhuangzi, Shenzi and Hanfeizi together in one biography, which became the foundation for further studies as far as the relationship between Taoism and Legalism was concerned. He also proposed definitely for the first time that Zhuangzi actually helped Confucius though he depreciated him in public, initiating the discourse of the inter-complementation between Taoism and Confucianism. In addition, he also conducted researches on the historical facts in Historical Records, and left some valuable textual researches and opinions. All this indicated that Su Shi played an important role in the academic and intellectual histories of the Historical Records study.
